The Villages Amateur Radio Club will hold “Radio on the Square,” a live demonstration of “HAM” radio old and new from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.
“It’s amazing how much ham radio has changed since most of us were kids. You will see more than just the beeps of Morse Code, HAMs still exchange messages over shortwave sets, but today are using microwaves and satellites, too,” said Marty Brown, president of the club.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about Ham radio and possibly the last chance you will have to send a radiogram, she said.
Do you have a grandchild who would be amazed to get a radiogram from The Villages on the wireless just like the luxury ocean liners sent 100 years ago? Your whole family is invited to watch messages being sent using the old school technology and the latest digital radios from the pavilion, Brown said.
