A human being can only tolerate so much turkey and football.
As Thanksgiving comes and goes, you have get up and away from the dining table or in front of the TV monitor and venture back out in The Villages for a good time.
Lots of cool stuff will be happening in the coming week, including one of the biggest local shows of the year, the 2015 Savannah Center “Christmas Spectacular.” It is already soldout for three nights, Dec 3-5.
Here are some of the entertainment events coming up:
Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. at Spanish Springs Town Square: Cactus Jack & the Cadillacs, one of the more popular oldies bands here, will rocking and rolling off some calories for Turkey Day eaters.
“Showcase of Talent,” Friday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. in the La Hacienda Recreation Center: This monthly event has turned into one of the most entertaining gigs in The Villages. Christmas is the musical theme and the Questar Dancers, who will be in the Christmas Spectacular, will preview the number “The Man With The Bag.”
Also performing are Bill Davis, Diana Arlt, Carolyn Hoffman, Shirley Knight, the Broadway Dancers and the Aloha ‘O Ka Hula Group. All money raised by the shows, organized by Arlt and her husband Joe, goes to help young performers.
“Christmas Spectacular,” Dec 3-5 at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center. Debra Heath-Strickland is co-director and of the event and the cast includes dozens of Villagers who have been working on it for nearly two years. Expect to see plenty of high-kicking dancers and hear lots of Christmas music. Think Rockettes.
Friday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. at Paddock Square: Rocky and the Rollers know how to throw a party and the guys will be rocking the night away just in time for the holidays.
Saturday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m. at Lake Sumter Landing: Uncle Bob’s Rock Shop brings classic rock to the Square. The group plays David Bowie to ZZ Top and everything in between.
Dec 3, 7 p.m. at the Rohan Regional Recreation Center, “Winter Wonderland” concert sing-a-long. Billie Thatcher, Ray Leggiero, Michele Ehret and Hector Garrido will provide the music and the audience will help supply the voices.
Dec. 3, 6 p.m. at New Covenant United Methodist Church, “Bach With a Beat.” Holiday music, featuring classical and pop.
