A 27-year-old Lady Lake man was jailed after he allegedly stole guns from his 76-year-old grandfather to fuel his drug habit.
Raymond Francis Hertzfeld III was taken into custody Tuesday by Lady Lake police officers.
He is alleged to have taken 12 firearms, ammunition and a leather holster all with a value of $8,120.
Hertzfeld was reported to have had access to his grandfather’s home on Caroline Avenue in Lady Lake at any time. The grandfather told police that his grandson stole the gun to support his drug habit.
When interviewed by police, Hertzfeld admitted to taking the guns, but “was not sure who all the individuals were that he had sold, traded and bartered them to but did have phone numbers,” according to the arrest report.
He is facing a charge of theft from a person over 65 years of age. He was also arrested on separate warrants charging him with driving while license suspended and no motor vehicle registration.
He was booked at the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $6,000.
