Lightning sparked a fire in the attic of a villa at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Village of Belvedere.

A fast-moving storm rolled into The Villages late this morning, bringing lightning with it.

Villages Public Safety Department crews rushed to the Cherry Hill Villas where the fire was reported. The homeowner was home at the time of the lightning strike, but with a neighbor down the street when crews arrived, according to Deputy Chief Ivan Mustafa.

Three engines, two ladder trucks and two rescue units responded to the scene, he said.

About 60 percent of the home was saved, he added. Most of the damage occurred in the back half of the home.
