The Demise of The Cattle Baron

Ed Sullivan
Ed Sullivan

Who are the rustlers who are destroying The Cattle Baron and why? After what we now call the Historic Section was built Harold Schwartz and his son Gary Morse decided to build a town square so that people buying their beautiful homes would have a close by place to wine and dine and shop and dance. Within this town square called Spanish Springs because of its architecture and fountains they built a bar called Katie Belle’s and a restaurant called Cattle Baron both private clubs for residents and their guests.

My wife and I enjoy going to the Cattle Baron. The food is great, the atmosphere is great the salad bar is great and we enjoy hearing the music coming up from Katie Belle’s. If we sit close to the balcony we also enjoy the “battle of the sexes” going on at the bar and on the dance floor at Katie Belle’s.

Now they want to put in more stores. Don’t we have enough stores. There are over 30 in Spanish Springs, around  50 down the street in La Plaza Grande Shopping Center, a little further down there are about 20 in the Rolling Acres  Shopping Center and even further down there are around  20  in the Villages Crossroads  Shopping Center.  Now they want to change an old  and unique restaurant and bar that are part of The Villages’ history and turn part of it into “more stores”. Why? Maybe we should “Follow the Money.”
