Suspect commits suicide as Marion County SWAT unit closes in on him

A man committed suicide as the SWAT team from Marion County Sheriff’s Office SWAT closed in on him early Sunday morning in Ocklawaha.

An assault and battery call came in at around 1:30 a.m. today to MCSO.

Kevin Roger Bailey, 34, reportedly had a gun and a knife of which he was using in a threatening manner. Several family members suffered injuries as a result of  Bailey’s actions, according to MCSO.

As deputies arrived, Bailey reportedly fired the weapon. He allegedely aimed his weapon at law enforcement officers and then fled into the woods.

“It’s still early in the investigation,” said MCSO spokesman Judge Cochran.
