AROUND  THE   DIVISION

In their 16-12 win against the Cavaliers, the Rockets turned FOUR double plays…..  The first four batters in the Wizards’ lineup were 15-for-16 in their win against the Bucks….  The Celtics were held to season-lows in runs (three) and hits (eight) by the Hawks…..The Grizzlies needed four subs against the Magic and came away with a 19-4 win……MISSING THEIR FIRST GAME:  Jim McLaughlin (Bulls), Ben Musialek (Hawks), Dewey Peterson (Mavs), Ray Godleski (Magic), Les Reed (Heat), Paul Handzel (Pacers), Santo Paniccia (Pistons), Steve Schlachter (Raptors), Bill Taylor (T-Wolves), Mel Sweat (Warriors) and Dave Snell (Knicks)…. Jim Lacey returned to the Cavaliers’ lineup after missing five games….. Neither the Celtics nor the Pacers have used a sub….. Due to rainouts, the Mavericks have only played two home games and seven “on the road”…. For only the second time this season the Cavaliers did not need any subs in a game …… Bob Logterman, Bill Oar and manager Don Barry are the only three Celtics to have hit safely in every game….. In their 19-3 mercy loss to the T-Wolves, five Thunder players were held hitless….. The Jazz turned two double plays against the Suns—their first two DPs of the season….. Bob Braccia (Heat) has missed the last eight games….. All of the Pacers’ losses have come in close games—they are 0-5 in games decided by three or fewer runs….. In the longest game of the season, the Bobcats outlasted the Lakers 9-8 in nine innings.  Since the division removed the nine-inning limit on games three seasons ago, no game has gone into the 10th inning…. BEST DEFENSES:  The Kings have eight errors in ten games and the Mavericks eight in nine games….. Two corrections to THE DAILY SUN’s coverage:  it’s the Bulls, not the Bills and the Mavericks committed two errors, not twelve! ….. In trying to hand Kings their first loss, the Warriors took an 8-1 lead in the second inning, but they were outscored 11-2 the rest of the way….. It took nine innings, but the Lakers finally lost their first close game; they had won their first five….. The Sixers have committed 12 errors in their last three games
