USF officials considering moving medical school

Officials with USF Health say they are seriously considering a downtown Tampa campus for third- and fourth-year medical students, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Jeff Vinik, who owns the Tampa Bay Lightning and acres of property downtown, has expressed support for the proposed USF medical school location. A presentation scheduled for Wednesday to the Florida Board of Governors will ask the state for funding for a new building, but does not mention a location, the Times reports.

In a separate story, Bert Fish Medical Center has three health systems courting it for a partnership, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

Halifax Health Medical Center, Parrish Medical Center in Brevard County and Florida Hospital, which had a previous deal voided with Bert Fish because of Sunshine Law violations, have all submitted proposals, the News-Journal reports.  This is the third time the publicly owned hospital has been up for sale.
