State Senate hopeful talks Dallas shooting, upcoming Villages Tea Party debate

State Senate District 12 candidate David Gee hosted a meet-and-greet Tuesday morning at Panera at Lake Sumter Landing to speak about current issues and the upcoming Villages Tea Party candidate debate.

In the wake of the recent Dallas shootings, attendees such as former police captain of 33 years Herman Campbell informed Gee of a project called Blue Lights, which the candidate pledged his full support for in honor of the fallen police and gratitude for law enforcement.

Gee then encouraged his supporters to thank cops and back law enforcement through actions such as wearing ribbons in solidarity with police.

Gee talked about the upcoming Villages Tea Party debate and his thoughts on state Rep. Marlene O’Toole’s withdrawal from the forum.

He said he is feeling confident and looking forward to the forum.

Gee theorized that O’Toole has been conducting her own polling and has advisers telling her not to debate. O’Toole might not want to face questions about past ethics violations, he suggested.

The political outsider also made a comment on his Facebook page in regard to O’Toole’s decision to withdraw from the debate, calling it “very disappointing.”

Gee, O’Toole and state Rep. Dennis Baxley will square off in the Aug. 30 GOP primary.
