District Manager Janet Tutt has had a street named in her honor south of County Road 466A.

The street sign for Tutt Place has gone up in the new villas being built near Colony Professional Plaza.

The nearby Villages of Fruitland Park is littered with streets named in honor of longtime Villages employees.

Residents moving into the brand-new section of The Villages probably have no idea of the resonance of some of the names on the street signs and what they have meant to the development and growth of The Villages. Those names include Drake (director of purchasing and Villages Community Development District Board Chairman Steve Drake), Resmondo (longtime director of construction Sonny Resmondo and his wife Lori who ran the Southern Lifestyles furniture stores), McCabe (director of hospitality George “Mackie” McCabe), Coleman (longtime head of fitness at the Wellness Center Kristin Coleman now with Properties of The Villages) and Markward (publisher of the Daily Sun Phil Markward).

More prominent are the recreation centers south of County Road 466A named in honor of Recreation Director John Rohan and Villages Vice President of Development Gary Moyer.

Naming streets in honor of people is not new in The Villages.

On the Historic Side of The Villages, you’ll find Schwartz Boulevard named in honor of Villages founder Harold Schwartz and Tarrson Boulevard named in honor of Schwartz’s original Orange Blossom Gardens’ partner.

On the old side, you’ll also find a nod to Schwartz’s grandchildren with drives named Mark, Jennifer and Tracy. Megan Circle in the Village of Silver Lake may seem a bit humble now that Schwartz’s great-granddaughter Megan Boone has enjoyed a meteoric rise in her acting career thanks to NBC’s “The Blacklist.”
