Sumter County Circuit Clerk warns of jury scam notification

The Sumter County Circuit Clerk’s office is advising that it has been reported that individuals have received a text message or phone calls that they have violated Florida Law for Failure to Appear for Jury Service.
They are also advised there is now an active warrant for their arrest and that they should immediately call back a certain number.  Upon making this call they are told they must pay a fine over the phone using a credit card or in gift cards.
The Sumter County Circuit Clerk’s office does not process Jury Service Notifications in this fashion and at no time does the office collect fine payments over the phone.
If you have recently been notified of the need for you to attend Jury Service and are unaware if you have been properly excused, you should contact the office directly at (352) 569-6600 and speak to someone in the Jury Management Office.
