A trucker has been ticketed as the result of a crash last month that left a woman pinned in her vehicle.
Walter Donavon Hiser, 51, of Ocala, had been driving a semi at 6:20 a.m. Feb. 26 on State Road 44 at Morse Boulevard when he looked down at the floorboard of his truck. When he looked up, it was “too late” and he crashed into the rear end of a 2009 Nissan Altima four-door driven by 65-year-old Sandra Barber Bass of Floral City, according to an accident report released Monday by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Bass had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel. She was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
She had two dogs traveling in the vehicle with her. One of the dogs took off running north on Morse Boulevard, the report noted.
Hiser was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
