The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is touting a recent arrest that took a large amount of marijuana off the street.
Jeffery Keith Perry, 44, of Mascotte, was arrested May 31 around 2 a.m. after deputies caught him driving 95 mph in a 55-mph speed zone on State Road 50 near Groveland, according to sheriff’s office report.
Deputies immediately suspected that Perry had been drinking and found several open containers in plain few. They also could also smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the report says.
While DUI investigators were conducting field sobriety tests on Perry, street crimes detectives found a large plastic grocery bag containing marijuana on the front seat of Perry’s vehicle, the report says, adding that they also found a scale and other items used for packaging the drug.
Perry provided two breath samples showing blood alcohol content levels of .162 and .171 – both twice the legal limit of .08 in Florida.
Perry was transported to the Lake County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and driving under the influence (second offense). He was released several hours later on $7,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 25 at 8:30 a.m.
