A 61-year-old Fruitland Park woman was arrested after she allegedly aimed a gun at a man during a dispute over the finances for a dementia patient.
Judy Ann Hollen is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery following her arrest Thursday by Fruitland Park police.
Officers had been called to a home on Villa Avenue where Hollen cares for her elderly mother, who suffers from dementia, according to an arrest report. A man had come to the home to speak with the dementia patient, identified as his mother-in-law in the report.
Hollen demanded that the man leave and when he did not do so, Hollen retrieved a handgun. She pointed the gun at him and told him to leave. Her finger was on the trigger when she cited Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, the report said. There was not a round in the chamber, but the magazine was full, the report noted.
The man went for the gun and the two fell on a table. He was successful in wresting the gun from Hollen and he had it in his back pocket when police arrived.
Hollen was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $5,000 bond.
The dementia patient has since sought an injunction for protection against domestic violence against Hollen. A hearing is set for Aug. 7 in Lake County Court.
