Man transported to Villages hospital after reaction to smoking crack

A man was transported to UF Health The Villages Hospital last week after an apparent reaction to smoking crack cocaine.

The manager of the RaceTrac gas station on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake on May 9 called 911 after she noticed a silver Volkswagen which remained parked for 25 minutes at a gas pump, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The manager knocked on the driver’s side window of the vehicle, but was unable to wake the driver who was later identified as 57-year-old Harland Page Griffiths of Orlando.

He said “he had been smoking crack cocaine and was having a bad reaction,” the report said.

Lake EMS responded to the scene and transported Griffiths to The Villages hospital. His car was towed from the scene.

Griffiths, who was then a resident of Umatilla, was arrested in 2011 on an outstanding warrant and booked at the Lake County Jail.
