A Villager was arrested on a drunk driving charge after a disturbance at the nearby Lakeside Landings community in Oxford.
Wildwood police were called shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday to Lake Miona Way within Lakeside Landings where officers were called to investigate a disturbance, possibly involving a firearm.
They soon focused on a black four-door Cadillac which left the area, according to an arrest report.
The car was stopped and the driver was identified as 44-year-old Robert Patrick English who lives on Roseapple Avenue in the Village of Silver Lake. His eyes were bloodshot and watery and he had trouble forming sentences.
English started to perform field sobriety exercises, but could not maintain his balance and began spouting profanity. He gave up, walked away and sat down on a curb.
An officer attempted to escort English to a patrol car.
“I don’t think so,” he said and pulled away from the officer.
He refused to provide a breath sample. A check revealed English had refused to submit to a breath test in 2017 in Sumter County.
English was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $3,000 bond.
