Resident of local assisted living facility tests positive for COVID-19

A resident of an Oxford assisted living facility has tested positive for COVID-19 as Florida surpassed 50,000 cases of the potentially deadly virus on Saturday.

The patient resides at Trinity Springs, located at 12120 County Road 103. No other information about the person was available Saturday but it appears to be the first case identified at the facility.

The tri-county area reported 757 cases on Saturday, an increase of six in a 24-hour period. There have been 37 deaths and 148 people have required hospital care.

Sumter County is reporting 253 COVID-19 cases, an increase of just one from Friday to Saturday. They are comprised of 180 men, 72 women and one non-resident. There have been 17 deaths and 44 people hospitalized in the county that contains the vast majority of homes in The Villages.

Lake County added six more cases on Saturday for a total of 277. They are divided among 128 men, 130 women and 13 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 73 people have been hospitalized.

Marion County held steady Saturday at 233 cases among 100 men, 128 women and five non-residents. There have been five deaths and 31 people have required some form of hospital care.

All told, Florida is reporting 50,127 COVID-19 cases – 48,814 of whom are residents. There have been 2,232 deaths and 9,310 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
