Why won’t The Villages reopen the squares?

To the Editor:

It is great to hear that the movie theaters in Brownwood and Sumter along with The Sharon in Spanish Springs will be re-opening, even though those attending will be in an enclosed area during the performances.  Also, it will be generating income for The Villages. I am disappointed that the work on the Rialto in Spanish Springs has moved so slowly. They shut it down for refurbishing at the beginning of the busiest time of the year for The Villages, and seem to be in no hurry to get it finished. Why? Was it to force people to have to go to Brownwood for a movie.
Now, what about the squares? Why can’t they be reopened?  They are open air venues, and probably just as safe if not safer as going into an enclosed area for a movie or show. I would suggest that you reopen the squares NOW with entertainment and maybe just put half the number of chairs that you normally allow. And you can dictate that no chairs will be allowed to be brought in by attendees. Security can monitor that. This would follow the 50 percent rule.
