CMA at Villages cardiology clinic jailed after allegedly shoving man friend

A certified medical assistant at a cardiology clinic in The Villages was arrested after allegedly shoving a man friend.

April Diane Darnell, 40, who works at at Citrus Cardiology at Lake Sumter Landing, was arrested Saturday in Oxford on a charge of battery after she struck her man friend with his cell phone, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The man told deputies he and Darnell “became involved in a verbal argument over a friend in common having issues with her boyfriend,” the arrest report said. The man asked Darnell to leave. He said she shoved him “multiple times” and threw his cell phone at him, striking him in the upper left chest. He showed the deputies fresh scratch marks on his left forearm and a red welt on his chest. He also had video surveillance from inside the home which backed up his account of the altercation.

She was booked a the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $250 bond.
