Marital problems appear to have driven a Lady Lake father to drown his 18-month-old daughter in a bathtub, according to an arrest affidavit.
Jeremy Alan Main, 38, turned himself in Monday at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Annex in The Villages. Earlier that morning, he reportedly killed his daughter McKenzie Main in the bathtub of the master bathroom of the family home on Redbug Road in Lady Lake.
He arrived at the annex at 10:08 a.m. and told Villages District Commander Lt. Robert Siemer he had killed his daughter.
“I killed my daughter and failed to kill myself,” Main said upon his arrival at the annex.
He also said he had made “a big mistake.” He had self-inflicted cuts on his wrists, according to the arrest affidavit. He said he had “ruined his life.” He then asked for a lawyer.
Main’s wife Holly left for work at 6:30 a.m. Monday and Main was left alone with his daughter.
Holly Main called 911 from her workplace after she received a call from her husband. He had told her he had killed their daughter. She also said he was upset about an impending divorce.
Lake County sheriff’s deputies went to the Main home and found the toddler floating face down in the bathtub. She did not have a pulse.
