A Villager was arrested on Christmas night in the Village of Glenbrook after a telephone line went dead during a 911 call.
A Sumter County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher heard cursing between a male and female when a man said, “I don’t want to hurt you.” A female then picked up the open line and the dispatcher asked if everything was OK. The female replied, “Everything is not OK,” and the line was then disconnected.
When a deputy arrived at the home on Hampton Lane, the woman was standing in the driveway. She said that 67-year-old Thomas Scott Curley had punched her in the mouth. She said she then slapped him in the face. When she threatened to call law enforcement, he responded by ripping a phone from a wall mount, according to an arrest report.
Curley claimed his wife had pushed him, so he slapped her in return. He was “verbally aggressive” toward the deputy investigating the matter.
Curley was arrested on charges of battery and depriving 911 communication.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
