A man who led police on a wild chase down Micro Racetrack Road has checked out of a hospital and has been booked at the Lake County Jail.
Corey Martin, 28, had been airlifted Tuesday afternoon from the scene of a crash at the intersection of County Road 466A and Micro Racetrack Road. He had been pulled over by Lady Lake police at about noon at the intersection of Rolling Acres Road and Lake Ella Road. He was pulled over for passing a garbage truck in violation of double yellow lines on the roadway.
During the traffic stop, Martin lied about his identity. When police confronted him about the false identity, he put his four-door black sedan into gear, struck an officer and took off down Lake Ella Road, where he sideswiped two vehicles. Martin made a left turn onto Micro Racetrack Road, where he led police on a chase.
The chase ended when his vehicle crashed into a maroon SUV, just outside the walls of the The Villages of Fruitland Park. Martin was airlifted from the scene and taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
He has since been released from the hospital and is being held on $136,000 bond. He faces multiple charges of fleeing and eluding and one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was already classified as a habitual traffic offender and serving a probation sentence. Â Â
