It’s another sinkhole in The Villages. This time it’s in the Village of Mallory Square.
Lorraine Slasky, 79, dodged a bullet with the 2007 Ground Hog Day Tornado. She thought that was going to be it for her.
But since the rain of the past week, a sinkhole has been of grave concern at her home.
Her next door neighbors are gone, their home declared uninhabitable.
The sinkhole is located under her air conditioning unit.
“The crew told me they went down 90 to 100 feet before they hit bedrock,” she said.
She has sinkhole coverage through her homeowner’s policy which is with ASI.
“But my deductible (for sinkholes) is $21,600,” she said. “And I just paid my premium.”
For now, she and her dog, Honey Bun, are content to weather the storm together.
A native of Michigan, sinkholes are still a relatively unknown commodity for Slasky.
Bracken Engineering, the same firm that worked through the weekend and was part of a miraculous save on Chalmer Terrace in the Village of Buttonwood, is working this project, too.
“We’re just going to hang on and see what happens,” she said.
