The Lady Lake Commission put the brakes on Village of Mira Mesa resident Carl Kusky’s call for change on Chula Vista Avenue.

Kusky has complained in numerous email to town staff and commissioners about the volume and speed of traffic on Chula Vista Avenue.

On Monday evening, he gave the commission a 10-minute presentation on what he sees as the dangers of Chula Vista.

He called for stop signs, speed bumps, a lower speed limit, closing off the County 466 entrance to Chula Vista, and “no through traffic” signs.

He has been using a radar gun to clock traffic on Chula Vista and been posting photos of speed violators on a special Facebook page he has set up.

But Kusky received little sympathy from commissioners.

Mayor Ruth Kussard said that in the past 10 months, Lady Lake police officers have issued 40 traffic citations, 120 written warnings, and 15 verbal warnings to drivers on Chula Vista. The police have also put the radar speed warning sign on Chula Vista.

“But we can’t be out there all of the time. We have other areas of the town to protect,” she said.

The mayor said she was not in favor of closing off the entrances or putting in speed bumps as it could impede public safety responders.

“I will not support anything that puts someone’s life in danger,” the mayor said.

Commissioner Paul Hannan said town staff and police had been professional and responsive to Kusky’s concerns.

However, Hannan suggested that Kusky’s numerous requests and email had been a drain on town resources.

Kusky was not discouraged.

“I will be back,” he promised.
