Marion sheriff’s deputy punished for violating code of conduct

An internal investigation revealed Deputy Isai Palau violated Marion County Sheriff’s Office Operation Directive concerning Code of Conduct, according to a statement issued today by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation makes reference to a June 20 incident that happened just after midnight.

Deputy Palau was assigned to investigate a domestic battery. A witness told investigators a husband grabbed his wife by the neck and then threw her on  the ground; and then he sat on top of her. The husband admitted to putting his wife in a  choke hold. The investigation showed that Deputy Palau did not make an arrest and he  did not submit a report during his tour of duty.

The results of the investigation are: Palau will be suspended without pay for 40 hours; Palau has been removed from the Patrol Division; Palau has been transferred to jail duty.

“The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Operations Directive is clear. Deputies are to submit all of their reports prior to the end of their respective shift unless they have received approval from a supervisor. Operation Directive 4080 states that the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will enforce all domestic violence laws of the state and establishes the investigative and reporting procedures for deputies investigating those type cases,” said Judge Cochran of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
