Ambulance, tow truck in crashes in wake of 5-vehicle pileup

An ambulance was rear-ended Monday afternoon as it transporting an injured driver from the scene of a five-vehicle collision at County Road 466 and Rolling Acres Road.

The ambulance had been traveling on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near the Boone Gate, transporting one of the drivers from the crash to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

The driver had suffered a head injury in a five-vehicle accident at about noon Monday at the intersection.

A second driver was transported to The Villages Regional Hospital. Both had been extricated from their vehicles by firefighters from Lake County Fire Rescue.

In addition, a tow truck responding to the crash was involved in an accident on Main Street, according to Capt. Jason Brough of the Lady Lake Police Department.
