William “Bill” Philip Reed, 83, passed away at Lane Purcell Hospice House on July 16, 2015.
Bill was born on June 10, 1932 in Bedford County Pennsylvania. Shortly after graduating from Saxton Liberty High School in 1950, he moved to Michigan and worked for Consumers Power Company . Bill joined the Air Force in 1952 and served for four years. After the Air Force, he resumed his career with Consumers Power Company where he worked for the next 37 years. While working at Consumers, Bill attended Michigan State University from 1957 until 1963, when he graduated with a degree in Personnel Management. Upon retiring from Consumers Power Company, Bill relocated to Orange Blossom Gardens which is now better known as “The Villages” in Florida.
On February 22, 1957 he married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Jean McPeek and together they raised three children. Bill and Pat were avid golfers and bowlers and spent many hours donating their time to community service. Bill became involved in politics while living in The Villages serving as both Town Commissioner and then Mayor of Lady Lake.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Jean Reed, two sons, John William Reed (Mary) of Negaunee Michigan, Jeff Reed of Hudson Florida, and one daughter, Judith Lynn Rose (Randy) of Bridgman, Michigan; Grandchildren Jessie Moore (Dan), Erin Sandberg-Reed, Bryan Rose, Kevin Rose and great grandchildren Madeline and Sophia Moore, all from Michigan, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Mary Catherine Reed, brothers Carl, Paul, Robert, sister Freda Meyers and his grandson Brandon Reed.
Services will be held at North Lake Presbyterian Church, 975 Rolling Acres Road, Lady Lake, FL on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made in Bill’s memory to: Operation Homebound.
