Grandfather back in his Villages home, ready to celebrate grandson’s birthday

An 82-year-old Villager has returned to his home and was preparing to celebrate his grandson’s ninth birthday on Saturday.

Charles Newman’s 42-year-old daughter, Susan Newman, has vacated her father’s home at 1813 W. Schwartz Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages and he has returned to the residence.

“I came home to a complete mess,” Newman said.

But he is overjoyed to have his grandson there with him. He is not sure where his daughter has gone.

The saga of the Newmans has enraged the community ever since the 82-year-old was arrested in September and forced from his home. He was later ordered to undergo anger management training.

On Saturday, in honor of his birthday, grandson and grandfather planned to celebrate at Sky Zone in Ocala.

The grandfather has resumed his longtime role of caring for his grandson, including getting him ready for school, taking him to school and picking him up. He had that responsibility even when his daughter was living in the home, because “she liked to sleep.”

The child will reportedly be allowed to remain at The Villages Charter School util Dec. 18, when the semester ends.

Newman confirmed he received a letter from The Villages about the child living in his home in violation of an internal deed restriction. He does not believe it was a neighbor who complained, as the boy has lived there quietly for several years without complaint.

“I just want what is best for him,” Newman said.
