The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club presented a $750 scholarship to a local student who also happens to be a racer. The presentation was made Wednesday evening at Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
Jardine “Jake” Perkins graduated this past May from Belleview High School with an outstanding academic record (4.91 weighted GPA) and an equally impressive record of participation in high school sports programs, specifically golf and tennis.
In the racing world, Perkins is known at “No Brake Jake.”
As a racer, he’s distinguished himself in that field as well, from karting (where he captured multiple championships) to Legends (where he also grabbed a few championships) to Super Late Models (where he was 2011 Rookie of the Year in the FUPS series) to the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series.
He started his college program this summer at the University of Florida while continuing to race at tracks around Florida.
“I have to be grateful for my opportunities in education much like I am grateful for the chance I have had in racing, and, in turn, take advantage of these opportunities to the best of my ability,” Perkins said.
He is the son of Carter and Cynthia Perkins.
