Villager Mikki Blumberg had a dream five years ago to launch a drive to collect books and pajamas for area homeless children.

Every year her determination has led to more and more pajamas and books being collected by the Girl Scout Alumnae-Silver Trefoils of the Villages.

This year, the effort shattered previous records.

The drive collected 3,800 pairs of pajamas. That is 1,200 more than the previous year.

The familiar collection boxes have been set up at recreation centers and other locations around The Villages.

The boxes, which were collected Monday afternoon, also yielded 5,400 books.

“This has been an unbelievable year,” Blumberg said. “People have been incredibly generous.”
