Wayne Gibson, 35, of Belleview, was arrested by Marion County sheriff’s deputies around 9:30 p.m. Friday, along S.E. 116th Street in Belleview. Witnesses say Gibson was walking his pit bull on a leash. Gibson made his way to a backyard that’s about a three minute walk from his residence. Witnesses say Gibson let go of the leash and ordered the attack of another dog that was on a chain in the backyard at SE 116th Street.

The owner, of the second dog, told investigators he received a call about the attack and when he arrived home, he saw the dogs still fighting. He told investigators Gibson didn’t try to separate the dogs. The second dog suffered “a large injury to the right upper leg which prevented the dog from being able to walk adequately,” according to the arrest affidavit. Gibson’s dog had “cuts to its face and an injury to the right ear that was bleeding,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Gibson was arrested for intentionally walking his dog to the area for the purpose of causing both dogs to fight that resulted in severe injuries. Gibson is charged with animal cruelty and is in the Marion County Jail with a bond amount of $2,000.
