Jewelry, iPad taken in burglary in broad daylight in Village of Charlotte

Jewelry and an iPad were stolen Wednesday after a front door was kicked open in broad daylight in the Village of Charlotte.

A homeowner told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that she left her home at about 11:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Enisgrove Way.

When she returned from running errands at about 1:45 p.m. she noticed that her home had been broken into.

The master bedroom had been entered and several drawers were left open. Jewelry that was stolen included chains of varying lengths and necklaces. An iPad was also taken.

The homeowner also reported that when she returned home the sliding glass door was unlocked, but that she had locked it before she’d left.

“It could be the way they left,” said Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Neighbors were interviewed as part of the investigation, but none reported seeing anything out of the ordinary.

It is the second reported burglary in The Villages this month.

On Sept. 5, someone broke into a home in the 1100 block of Hollyhock Way in the Village of Fernandina and took thousands of dollars in jewelry.
