Letter to the Editor: Response from Walgreens on Prescription Policy Change

To the Editor:

Just a final update on my Walgreens issue. I received a call from the regional representative for Walgreens in Leesburg. He apologized for the pharmacist who refused to fill my pain medicine prescription since I do not fill all my prescriptions there. He said this was not company policy and that the person misunderstood the new policy which put certain restraints on filling pain medicines/controlled substances. I also heard from my insurance company and they concurred that the local Walgreens made an error in judgment and in understanding new Federal law pertaining to controlled substances. Just wanted to share this with all of you since it definitely clarifies the matter. I have however, determined not to shop in Walgreens due to the attitude of the local pharmacist/manager when discussing my issue.
