School children lend a hand in decorating Christmas tree at Lady Lake Town Hall

Villages Elementary of Lady Lake students visited Lady Lake Town Hall on Thursday morning to help deck the hall’s Christmas tree and fill the office with holiday spirit.

Town Manager Kris Kollgaard said that this is the 10th annual Christmas tree decorating event; a tradition, she said that helps get employees in the Christmas spirit and is a pleasure to watch.

Taking part in witnessing the event for the third time, Chief of Police Chris McKinstry called the tradition “great community spirit,” and said that the children’s effort in decorating the tree is something beneficial for everyone at the Town Hall.

Like many of the students, this was fourth grader Jayden Rutledge’s first time participating in the event.

Rutledge said he looks forward to celebrating Christmas.

Some children wore Christmas attire, such as second grader Leslie Muñoz, as they gleefully hung their different handmade ornaments. After the tree was adorned with eye-catching décor, the students lined up to coil a Christmas-colored chain around the tree starting from the top.

Principal David Bordenkircher, with the help of Jayden Rutledge, completed the decorations by adding the angel tree topper. Before doing so, he expressed gratitude for all the town hall commissioners and employees for their support.

Bordenkircher called it a “wonderful tradition” that gives back and said that the annual event “signifies the partnership between the town and Villages Elementary.”
