Village of Buttonwood resident tells supervisors her neighbors ‘make life hell’

Gloria Fealy bought her home in 2014 on Bayport Place in the Village of Buttonwood. She was looking for a fresh start after her husband passed away.

“I moved here to have a nice, quiet new life,” she told Community Development District 8 supervisors on Friday. “I happened to end up next to people who are malicious.”

She was before the board in an appeal of a case she had lost before the Architectural Review Committee. Her neighbors had asked her hedges be trimmed two feet from their garage. They also complained about landscaping in her back yard and side yard.

Fealy said her neighbors have been manipulating the compliance system and making her life miserable.

“This is all because I have some very nasty neighbors. They are violent, nasty people. We have had to have the police over. I have a ‘no trespass’ order against them,” she said.

Fealy said the staff at the Villages Community Standards office have been “wonderful” as she has tried to come into compliance and satisfy her neighbors. But she fears that will be an impossible task.

“It’s one thing after another,” she said.

Fealy said she is fearful of walking her dog at night and finds herself constantly looking over her shoulder.

Supervisors were sympathetic, but denied her appeal.

They encouraged Fealy to continue to work with Community Standards to bring her property into compliance.
