Villages officials are having trouble getting a dead man’s car moved out of a parking lot in the St. Simons Villas in the Village of Belle Aire.
The car, with long-expired plates out of New Jersey, belonged to a man who had been living in a villa with his girlfriend. She does not have keys to the car. The man’s family reportedly has had “zero” contact with the girlfriend.
An employee with Community Standards has been trying to hunt up family and was able to identify the attorney handling the man’s estate, which is tied up in probate.
Community Development District 3 Supervisor Gail Lazenby, who has been investigating the matter, felt so strongly about it, he wanted to update his fellow supervisors at Friday’s board meeting.
“The car hasn’t moved for a long time,” Lazenby said. “This is no different than a foreclosed home. We can’t just pick it up and move it.”
He said he understands residents’ frustration with such matters.
“We frequently get criticized for these things. Other boards get criticized. We can’t move any faster than the law allows us to move. We work within the confines of the law,” Lazenby said.
An abandoned car at Savannah Center has been causing similar frustration. You can read more about that car HERE. That car was still at Savannah Center on Friday.
