Massachusetts man killed in collision with dump truck in Alachua County

A Massachusetts man was killed in a collision with a dump truck Wednesday morning on U.S. 301 in Alachua County.

Berhmann Dorante, 59, of Orange Park was driving a dump truck south on U.S. 301 when he entered the left turn lane and attempted to make a U-turn north on U.S. 301, violating the right of way of a 2006 Land Rover driven by Jonathan Luiz, 34, of Fall River, Mass., according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Luiz was traveling north when the right side of his vehicle collided with the right side of the dump truck, the report stated.

Luiz died at the scene of the collision. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
