Ocala woman arrested in theft of nearly $300 in merchandise at Bealls

Emily Berroyer

An Ocala woman was arrested Saturday in the theft of nearly $300 in merchandise at Bealls in Leesburg.

Leesburg police responded to the Bealls located on 1706 North Citrus Blvd.and upon arrival, made contact with the store’s loss prevention officer. The loss prevention officer advised that a woman present, later identified as 31-year-old Emily Ruth Berroyer, was in custody for shoplifting. The officer told police that Berroyer selected two pairs of Keds shoes, a dark blue t-shirt, brown purse, light blue shorts and tan camisole. After entering a pre-cleaned fitting room, she concealed the merchandise valued at $275. Berroyer then left the fitting room, passed all points of sale and then exited the store.

The store’s officer confronted Berroyer, who ignored him when asked to report to the loss prevention office.

She was placed under arrest and transported to the Lake County Jail. She was released on $1,500 bond.
