Lady Lake man arrested on DUI charge after spotted driving without headlights on U.S. Hwy. 27/441

Ron Jon Williams

A Lady Lake man was arrested on a drunk driving charge after he was spotted driving a pickup without headlights.

A caller early Wednesday morning alerted law enforcement about an erratic driver near the Shamrock Bar in Leesburg. A second caller spotted the truck traveling on the roadway without headlights on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Fruitland Park. A Lady Lake police officer caught up with the truck at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Eagles Nest Road and began pursuing it.

The truck continued to be driven in an erratic pattern before the driver finally pulled over at a Sunoco station in Fruitland Park.

As the officer approached the vehicle, a bottle of beer fell to the driver’s feet and spilled on the vehicle’s floorboard, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Ron Jon Williams. He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .177 and .172 blood alcohol content. He also was found to be in possession of marijuana.

As he was being turned over to detention staff at the Lake County Jail, “he became unruly and had to be restrained,” the report indicated.

He was booked at the jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
