Distracted driver rear-ends Villager’s van at stoplight near Pinellas Plaza

A distracted driver rear-ended a Villager’s van Saturday morning at a stoplight near Pinellas Plaza.

Johnny Everett Gebaide III, 31, of Summerfield, had been at the wheel of a black four-door 2018 Chevrolet Impala at about 9 a.m. heading westbound on County Road 466A when the crash occurred, according to an accident report from the Wildwood Police Department.

He told police he was distracted and did not see the red light or the traffic in front of him, the report said.

His vehicle struck the rear of a 2016 Honda Odyssey driven by 78-year-old Kenneth Wooley of the Village of Sunset Pointe. Wooley had been stopped at the red light.

Gebaide was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital. Wooley was evaluated at the site of the crash by EMS.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
