A recent widow in her early 80’s, Fall (Elaine Partnow) sells her home and buys a two-mast sailing yacht named the Slipaway. She has no idea of how to sail or what she wants to do.
She meets Adam (Jessie Pepe) an unemployed pianist and composer in his twenties. Fall buys his keyboard which Adam sells for some much needed cash – if he will load it on her yacht. The two become friends and he moves onto the yacht.
The story is a simple one about companionship. There are no clashes or climaxes. Not much action, but a pleasant 87 minutes of no tension as the two build an emotional bridge that crosses a 60-year span.
“Slipaway” gets a C plus score from me and is currently showing at the Rialto Theater in The Villages.
