Wanted Summerfield man nabbed with drugs while pedaling lightless bicycle

Johnathon R. Dove

A Summerfield man who was about to be served with a warrant was arrested Monday night while pedaling his bicycle along SE 47th Avenue.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was en route to serve a warrant to 31-year-old Johnathan Ray Dove at his Summerfield residence, located at 4920 SE 148th Place. But he spotted Dove on a bicycle that was missing a red light on the back of it.

The deputy then stopped Dove in the 4600 block of SE 142nd Place and as he approached him, Dove dropped a red cigarette cartridge out of his right hand, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the deputy had Dove pick up the dropped item.

Dove agreed to let the deputy look inside the cigarette cartridge, where he found a clear Cellophane bag containing a crystal-like substance. The deputy then searched Dove and found a glass pipe and a green leafy substance in his right shirt pocket, the report says.

Dove also emptied out his other pockets for the deputy and placed his cell phone and a black object on the ground. Another deputy picked up the black object and identified it as a scale with a sticker reading “Kicker” on it, the report says.

Dove told deputies that the glass pipe was his and was used for smoking marijuana. He said the scale and green leafy substance which later tested positive for marijuana was his. But he said the cigarette box was given to him by a friend and the substance inside that tested positive for methamphetamine was not his, the report says, adding that residue on the scale also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Dove was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and two counts of possession of drug equipment. He was being held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on March 12 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.

Dove is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having spent time in the jail four times since August 2019. Prior to Monday’s arrest, Dove’s most recent trip to the jail came last September when he was charged with dealing in stolen property, violation of the Pawnbrokers Act and unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.
