Spruce Creek South woman jailed after reckless driving escapade on U.S. Hwy. 441

A Spruce Creek South woman found herself behind bars Thursday after Marion County sheriff’s deputies received a call about a reckless driver.

Angie Lee Sousa, 37, of Spruce Creek South, was arrested Thursday after another motorist reported seeing her driving recklessly and running into a ditch near the Circle K minimart at the corner of U.S. Hwy. 441 and Sunset Harbor Road.

A sheriff’s lieutenant stopped 37-year-old Angie Lee Sousa in the 4000 block of SE Hwy. 441 shortly after 2 p.m. and called another deputy for backup. The lieutenant reported seeing Sousa’s white vehicle leave the Circle K minimart at the corner of S Hwy. 441 and Sunset Harbor Road and start weaving in and out of the inside lane of Hwy. 441. She said she initiated a traffic stop and upon contact noticed that Sousa’s eyes were glassy and she was shaking.

After Sousa flunked three field sobriety tests, the deputy spoke with a motorist who said he first saw Sousa’s vehicle as she drove past the Market of Marion. He said she was “swerving all over both lanes and unable to maintain a lane.” The man said he followed Sousa for several miles and saw her vehicle leave the roadway and run into a ditch near the Circle K, a sheriff’s office report states.

Sousa, who lives at 17500 104th Cir., was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she refused to provide the deputy with a urine sample. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and held on no bond. She’s due in a Marion County courtroom on June 18 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.

Sousa also was arrested on March 24 and charged with trespassing at the Summerfield Wal-Mart. She was released two days later on a $500 bond and is due in court on Friday, May 17 at 9 a.m. in that case.
