Multi-modal paths dangerous for walkers and bikers

To the Editor:

This is certainly my opinion, but the multi-modal paths are a very dangerous situation for all; particularly walkers and bikers. We have golf carts – which in reality are a motor vehicle – bikers and walkers utilizing these paths together.
There are various speeds for each. Most paths I am on are very curvy and in many instances you don’t have any idea of what is around the curve. In most cases, you will see golf carts trying to pass the slower individual. This mix of transportation should not occur on the same path. Most paths are not wide enough to accommodate everyone.
This is a recipe for disaster, which we have seen prior. My only recommendation is to plead with other walkers to walk single file, stay to the side and wear reflectors. I feel the walkers are the most vulnerable. To me, walking in the tunnel, is like trying to walk across a bridge in two-way traffic, which many of us would not do. Please be safe.
