Villagers took part in a golf cart rally Friday evening in support of presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Golf carts, decked out with political signs, made their way from the Lake Miona Recreation Center down to Brownwood Paddock Square.

Some of the signs took swipes at Trump’s rival Hillary Clinton, some brought back memories of Monica Lewinsky and others made reference to “The Deplorables,” a name Trump supporters have embraced after Clinton famously mocked them.

Villager Marie Reinle, who has been in charge of Trump golf cart rallies, led the parade.

The caravan came to a stop near the SeaBreeze Recreation Center and Trump supporters got out of their golf carts and waved to vehicles traveling on Buena Vista Boulevard. Many of those vehicles honked their horns in support.

Sumter County Trump campaign chairman Bill Garner gave a pep talk to rally participants before taking off.

He said Trump supporters need to do all they can between now and election day.

“We know he will carry Sumter County. But he’s going to have to carry Sumter County by a lot to make up for the rest of Florida,” Garner said.

He promised that a pair of post-election golf carts will be staged in The Villages to celebrate Trump’s victory.
