Firefighters rescue dog trapped under bed after vehicle crashes into apartment

Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched Saturday afternoon after a car crashed into an apartment trapping a dog in the 3900 block of SE 17th Court, Ocala. 

The 911 caller reported a vehicle had crashed into the neighbor’s apartment.

Engine Company #33 arrived on scene at 2:12 p.m to find a black sedan that was inside of the bedroom of the apartment. The driver and passenger of the vehicle had removed themselves from the vehicle. The occupant of the apartment was unharmed. Firefighters were able to located the homeowner’s pit bull lodged underneath the car and the bed. The animal was not injured.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were evaluated by paramedics on scene and refused any further treatment. A two-week old pit bull mix was located in the vehicle and returned to the owner.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The occupant of the structure will be staying with friends in the neighborhood.
