Frankie Brin 70’s wins FHC Polk County June Tournament

The Frankie Brin Financial 70’s softball team won the Florida Half Century Polk County June tournament held at the Diamond Plex Sports Complex in Winter Haven, Florida on June 2-3, 2018.

Frankie Brin’s record for the weekend was 4 wins 0 losses.

On Saturday, Frankie Brin Financial (FB) won their first game over the Estero Bay Stingrays 22-7.

John Iorio, Darrel Smith, Charlie Pope, Bob Buchanan and Carl Roberts were a combined 17 for 17 at the plate. Smith had 5 RBI’s, Roberts had 3 doubles, Floyd Williams added 3 RBI’s and a triple.

In FB’s second game Saturday, FB defeated Lane Construction 13-7.

Ed Krisha, Williams and Iorio led the way with 3 hits each.

On Sunday, FB’s first game of the day would be the championship game as FB played the undefeated Florida Venom. FB came away with the win defeating Venom 20-16.

FB started fast by scoring 10 runs in the first two innings. Williams (2 dbls, 1 triple), Iorio, Ralph Hollis, Carter Honkonen, Pat Perkins (1 HR, 5 RBI’s), all had 3 hits in the win. Chris Iorio also added a HR and a triple in the game.

In FB’s second game Sunday, Estero Bay forfeited to FB as there was threatening weather coming in.

Ed Krisha pitched all 3 games for FB, using his terminator and constipator pitches effectively throughout the tournament.

Leading hitters for FB were Pat Perkins 1.000, John Iorio .909, Ed Krisha .875, Carl Roberts .833, Darrel Smith .800 (8 RBI’s), Floyd Williams .750, and Charlie Pope .714.
