Trump and the plunging stock market

To the Editor:

Since early in the year, Sir Donald, our Economist-in-Chief, has taken personal credit for each and every increase in the stock market. But the last several days paint a much different picture with both the Dow Jones and the S&P reverting to lows not seen since September of 2017. During the last several days, the Dow shed some 1,500 points, and the S&P suffered the same kind of losses.
And where is the Economist-in-Chief during this down surge? It’s as if he was not even here. But like it or not, he owns the losses just as much as he claimed he owned the increases. I am sure that his Kool-Aid drinking minions will claim that this recent precipitous drop was caused by the Chinese, or by the Federal Reserve, or some other “fake” bogeyman. But, people, it was caused only by The Trumpster himself with his inane trade war, his ill-advised tariffs, and his alienation of nearly every country on earth but for Kim Il Jung’s N. Korea and Vladimir Putin’s Russia. I can only suggest that: “It’s the economy, Stupid!”
