Jailed man learns he can’t stay next door to victim with protection order

Michael Shawn Anderson

A Summerfield man was charged with violating a protection order just hours after it was served, claiming he thought it was OK if he stayed next door to the victim.

Michael Shawn Anderson, 29, was charged this past Tuesday with contempt of court by violating a domestic violence injunction. He’s being held in the Marion County Jail on $5,000 bond.

The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that Anderson was served the injunction around 2 p.m. Tuesday, but that evening she saw him at a next-door neighbor’s house on Southeast 45th Court. She said Anderson knocked on her door. She didn’t open it but saw him through her window and called 911.

A deputy measured the distance between the victim’s and the neighbor’s houses at approximately 25 feet. The injunction states Anderson cannot go to, in, or within 500 feet of the victim’s current residence.

Anderson confirmed to deputies he was served the injunction and said he received a copy of it. He said he didn’t know he couldn’t stay next door to the victim.

Anderson’s next date in Marion County Court is set for Feb. 19.
