Villager jumps from golf cart bridge after reportedly battling depression

A Villager who died after jumping from the golf cart bridge had reportedly been depressed.

Lila Thornhill, 55, died early Monday morning after she jumped from the bridge over U.S. Hwy. 27/441, according to the Lady Lake Police Department. Her body was in the roadway when it was struck at 2:24 a.m. by a 2016 Audi A3 driven by 18-year old Logan Zock, of Citra.

Thornhill’s death has been ruled a suicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Her car keys were found near her body. Her vehicle was found parked near Veteran’s Memorial Park.

After contacting her friends and family, investigators learned that she had been depressed since the passing of her mother and other family issues. Investigators located notes and other paperwork in her residence leading them to conclude that she had committed suicide. Investigators located video footage of her leaving her neighborhood in her vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. She parked the vehicle at Veteran’s Memorial Park, walked to the bridge and jumped.

Zock and his passenger described seeing an “object” in the roadway, but had no idea it was person. They made the grisly discovery after they got out of the car and discovered the vehicle struck Thornhill.
